Welcome Back - Term 2 2012

Welcome back to Term 2.  I hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break.

This Term there are many exciting events organised for all students.  Teachers have been busy planning the Curriculum overview for Literacy and Numeracy and Guided Inquiry, Excursions and Incursions to compliment student learning and extend student understandings and problem solving.

Our Year 5/6 students are off on their Canberra Tour in Week 3, Monday 30th April to Friday 4th May, with staff and volunteer parents.

Teachers will be focusing on teaching strategies, goal setting, learning focus, quality questioning and using assessment data to differientiate the curriuclum.

In Week 5, from Tuesday 15th May to Thursday 17th May, our Year 3 & 5 students will undertake the NAPLAN assessment as determined by DEECD.

Staff will continue to particpate in a range of Professional Learning provided by the Western Metropolitian Region, Literacy & Numeracy Consultants engaged by the school and by our many experienced teachers, sharing their knowledge and expertise with each other.  Staff will also be writing Mid Year Reports later in the Term.

In mid June the Year 3 to 6 students will compete in the schools Athletics day while the Prep to Year 2 students will have a fantastic Tabloid Sports morning, experiencing many new and interesting activities.

This Term an Information Session will be held for propspective 2013 Prep Parents on Monday 7th May (Flyer for prep enrolment for 2013 version 1 ).  We then commence enrolments for our 2013 Prep children from Tuesday 8th May.  A number of additional tours have been organised at the following times: -

Friday 25th May at 12.00pm

Thursday 7th June at 10.00am and

Wednesday 27th June at 11.30am.

Staff will continue to work with Consultants to develop their knowledge, skills and teaching strategies.  Alan Wright, Literacy Consultant and Rob Vingerhoets, Numeracy Consultant, will work with all staff and students across the school.

A major focus for the School Leaders and myself this term is to instigate Learning Walks in all year levels of the school.  This is something that I really enjoy; getting into classrooms and talking with children.  We look at what we see and hear to ensure a consistant approach across the school for Literacy and Numeracy  Teachers will continue to develop their skills, knowledge and understanadings in line with school documents and the Western Metropolitan Regional plan, "A Learning Community".

In May we will hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) where we report back to the school community on the school's achievements and planned steps to build on student learning, and follow up with the Literacy/Numeracy Consultants.
