School Council
The Role of School Council
In Victoria, School Councils currently have a variety of roles. Willy North’s School Council‘s roles include:
-
determining the general educational policy of the school
-
developing the School Strategic Plan (a document that sets the 4 year direction for schools)
-
reporting annually to the School community which, at Willy North, occurs at the Annual School Community meeting
-
acting as a conduit regarding whole school issues, policies and practices
-
approving and monitoring the school budget
-
developing the student code of conduct
-
appointing the Principal and
-
generally stimulating interest in the school
What the School Council is not responsible for includes:
-
the day-to-day operations of the school, such as staffing arrangements, concerns relating to individual students, complaints about teachers or implementation of policies.
At Williamstown North Primary School, School Council is supported in its work by three sub-committees:
-
Education
-
Facilities and Finance
-
Community Liaison
Members of the school community are very welcome to attend any of these meetings, as well as School Council meetings. Meeting protocols will be explained to attendees, and the agenda is available in advance from the office. Minutes from School Council meetings are posted on the Community Notice board.
Additionally, School Councilors are happy to discuss the committees with interested parents and staff.
