Term 4 Overview

 During Term 4 the Prep children are going to be focusing on their Inquiry Topic ‘Safety for All’ and building on their art skills by exploring design and colour by creating a Safe Street and Safe Beach scene. They will be experimenting with the Primary Colours (Red, Blue, Yellow) and mixing them to create the Secondary Colours (Purple, Green, Orange). Children will discuss how there are things that we need to do to keep ourselves safe and how there are people that help us, as well as, how we can safely help other people during an emergency. They will use this knowledge to create some artwork using pastels and water wash paint. The term will end with a fun Christmas activity!

The Year 1/2 children will start the term by creating pieces of art that focus on Healthy Minds and Healthy Bodies. The students will be looking at how we can be fit and healthy, by eating the right foods and exercising.  The students will be creating and designing self portraits, making sour-dough food and designing a healthy body picture using pastels and paints. Students will also be encouraged to work slowly, taking care with their work and focusing on presentation. Students will be using paint washes, pastels, colour card and a variety of other resources to create interesting effects in their artwork. To finish the year students will spend time creating and decorating a Bon Bon for a Christmas tree.

Throughout Term 4 the Year 3/4 children will be guided to think critically about their work and how Puppets are designed and created. They will alternate with the other classes and teachers designing, creating and making various types of puppets, from Shadow Puppets to Paper Mache Puppets. They will be working on the skills of collage and painting and drawing. At then of the term students will make their own Christmas tree decorations.

 The Year 5/6 students will be working on a number of design and creative art pieces. The students will be starting the term off with designing their own Tile Mosaics, using paper mosaic squares. The students will be looking at a range of different art skills from Quilling to Paper Mache. The Year 5/6 students will also be creating some Iris Folding and Weaving Christmas decorations.

During November all the Year 3/4 students will be participating in a Cartoon Caricature Incursion, by Dave Gibb.
