A warm welcome to all students, parents and community members as we embark upon the 2020 academic year at Williamstown North PS.
We have had a very smooth start to the school year with all 790 students settling quickly into their new classes.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome several new teachers to the Willy North team – Emilie Kaparis (Foundation), Joanne De Mesa (Year 1), Carey Dewerson (Year 2), Maggie Snowdon (Year4) and Bill Manoleras (P.E.). We also welcome back Kate Richards (Year 2) and Lisa Hibbert (Year 5) who return part time from family leave, as well as Tammy Voukelatos (Year 2) who has secured a further twelve month contract with the school.
We’ve had a lot of work completed over the holidays to ensure our students have access to the best facilities possible. Most classrooms have been repainted over the break as well as the senior toilet block. All Year 1 classrooms have been equipped with new interactive screens, thereby ensuring that all students across the school have access to extensive digital technologies to support their learning each day. The two major playground equipment zones have been upgraded with over $12,000 of new soft fall mulch, thereby heightening safety for any students using the equipment.
We have a very busy term ahead as we begin to forge the new learning programs and routines for our students. As part of our two yearly Events Calendar, we excitedly anticipate our ‘Year of the Arts’ with some big announcements soon to be released!
We look forward to welcoming all Foundation and new families to the school at a Picnic/BBQ which has been planned for Monday 17th February. Stay tuned to the newsletter over the coming weeks for more details.
Information sessions for all parents, outlining the programs that will be operating at each level throughout the year, have been scheduled during the week beginning on Monday 24th February. All details regarding venues and times will also be provided in the newsletter.
Students in Years 3 & 4 will participate in an intensive swimming program over two weeks, beginning on Monday 2nd March.
In week 7 of the term, Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences will be scheduled for Foundation to Year 2 students on Tuesday 10th March and Years 3 – 6 students on Wednesday 11th March. These conferences will provide information on each child’s start to the school year and allow for some preliminary goal setting to support each child’s learning program. Details regarding the online booking of these conferences will become available through the newsletter.
Please note that the school will be closed on Friday 28th February for a Staff Training day and the annual Labour Day holiday on Monday 9th March. Term 1 will conclude on Friday 27th March.
We look forward to another wonderful term at Willy North as we begin the new school year.
